Here are the old knees, pre-surgery:

And this is her pre-surgery walking:

For the curious, they're in the process of pulling out the carpet in the living room/dining room and staining the lovely hardwood underneath. Wow!

Hi Marilyn,

I'm so ashamed to not have posted my best wishes to you before the surgery. I do think I've been too self-absorbed lately.
I am delighted to see that you are doing so well. I hope these ominous predictions that "the worst is yet to come" don't come true after all.
Ok the liquid diet doesn't sound to appetizing, but it's good that you're seeing the positive side of that too.
Another positive, is that you are reminding all of us to appreciate our joints. I for one never really thought much about mine. I hear they do amazing things with such surgeries nowadays. It's scary that they want to get you up and walking right away, but I'm sure it's the best thing to do. Slowly but surely and you'll win this race. Why I expect you to be running marathons any day, but I'd settle for a waltz on Sept 7.
Kudos to Chris and the kids for taking such good care of you. In spirit, I am sending you mashed sweet potatoes - a favourite of yours no? May I suggest Chris or Jess cook up some for you?
I promise to keep an eye on the blog and comment whenever I can. Keep positive. I know you're a winner - you've raised a family of winners!
love, Iro
